Isle of Skye
Isle of Skye 09/29/2022
We arrived by ferryboat yesterday afternoon and checked into the Rhu House. It will be home for the next 4 days in Armadale. Last night we had dinner at a local pub, The Inn @ Aird a’ Bhasair. It was almost next door. I had trout and everyone else had sole. It was enjoyable after a long drive.
Today we drove to the village of Dunvegan. The village sits on the shores of Loch Dunvegan. It is a well known village because Dunvegan Castle is located here. Dunvegan Castle is thought to be the oldest occupied castle in northern Scotland; it has stood on its rocky outcrop by the shore of Loch Dunvegan for over 800 years. Dunvegan has been continuously occupied by the chiefs of Clan MacLeod in an unbroken line stretching back for over 7 centuries and 30 generations. We did not have the opportunity to meet the current Chief of Clan MacLeod, we saw a video he made about the time line of Dunvegan Castle and the MacLeods. Before we took the tour we had lunch at the Misty restaurant. Linda, Amanda, and Harry had hamburgers. I had Cullen Skink soup. I asked our waitress about the soup before I ordered. She said it was fantastic. So that is what I had.
We decided to take it easy today. We planned to drive into Portree, walk around, then drive back to our quarters, about a 45 minute drive. However like many plans, sometimes they are altered. A flat tire altered ours. We were a few miles outside Portree, it was about 3:30, and the low pressure tire light came on. We made it into Portree to Morrison’s Tire Service. They were very friendly and in one hour and one new tire later, we were on our way.
We had a pizza for dinner and I thought I would get caught up with on our Scotland adventure. I fell behind because I have been taking an online course at the University of South Alabama and had some homework that needed my attention. The weather has been great, but tomorrow rain is forecast. You have to have flexible plans.
